About the STE Policy Lab at UIC

Within the Department of Public Administration, the Science, Technology, and Environment Policy Laboratory (STE Lab) serves as a focal point for interaction among faculty, graduate students, and practitioners on public policy and management. Directed by Dr. Eric Welch, Associate Professor of Public Administration, the STE Lab is a 750 square foot physical space and maintains a secure server to store data, state-of-the-art video conferencing technology, and requisite hardware and software necessary for conducting research. The STE Lab and all affiliated faculty, students and partners benefit from the support and resources in the college, including IT support and access to equipment and expertise from researchers at the Data Visualization Laboratory and the Survey Research Laboratory, which are housed in the same building.

The Department of Public Administration (PA) is located within the College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs (CUPPA) at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). Ranked 16th nationally in research productivity by the National Research Council among all Ph.D. granting public administration, public affairs, and public policy programs, PA capitalizes on the strength and resources of the University of Illinois. Members of faculty have extensive experience working in government, and are currently engaged in the community and beyond through consulting and research. The Chicago region is home to many state and federal agencies, major nonprofit organizations, and more local governments than any other metropolitan area in the country - providing resources for study, internships, capstones, and employment.
